Riverside Students Earn TV Spotlight

School Information

Teacher Benjamin Blackstar leads a broadcasting lesson at Riverside Indian School.

Riverside Indian School recently received local television recognition for its new broadcasting class and student-produced show, “The Side Talk.” KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City featured the program during its “Is This a Great State or What?” segment.

Led by teacher Benjamin Blackstar, the broadcasting class gives students hands-on opportunities to explore journalism, storytelling and media production. Students are developing technical skills while learning the newscast format. Their morning broadcasts offer an engaging way to share campus announcements and keep the school community informed.

Principal Donald Wise and the Riverside community celebrated the feature, which highlighted how the school preps students for modern communication opportunities. Through “The Side Talk,” students are building confidence, collaborating with classmates, and gaining practical experience both in front of and behind the camera.

The new program demonstrates Riverside Indian School’s commitment to creating innovative learning experiences that help students discover their voices and share their school’s stories.
